Sh Sh Sh Let the Baby Sleep Book Reviews

Through Ms. Stemke’s expert rhyme and consonant blends storytelling Zachary learns what family is all about and what it truly takes to be a good big brother.
Donna Mc Dine
Award Winning Author

This story is filled with consonant blends hidden in a delightful story for young children who are just beginning to read. This 20 page picture book shows children that having a younger sibling can be fun and not an inconvenience. The illustrations are bold and bright which will catch even the youngest child’s attention.

Kathy Stemke has created songs, games, and worksheets to keep learning fun and to help with blends that children will be learning about in school. These activities reinforce the words that will make learning blends easier to do. The activities can be played over and over again.

Renee Hand

In amongst the story line, there are some great phonics skills! There are blends and digraphs throughout the whole book, and there is also a rhyming element.

Walking Through Walls Virtual Book Tour

Walking Through Walls
Today, I have the honor of hosting my good friend and respected colleague, Karen Cioffi, for her virtual book tour!

TITLE: Walking Through Walls
AUTHOR: Karen Cioffi
PUBLISHER: 4RV Publishing http://4rvpublishingllc.com
FORMAT: Paperback
PAGES: 61
PRICE: $14.99 (US)
ISBN:13: 9780982659472
ILLUSTRATOR: WillowRaven http://WillowRaven.weebly.com
In her new middle grade chapter book, “Walking Through Walls,” Karen Cioffi takes you on an incredible journey with her main character, Wang.  He longs to learn the magic of the Eternals.
Twelve-year-old Wang longed to be an Eternal. He craved wealth . . . and power. Spending his time learning about these mystics took his thoughts away from the certain fate of slaving in the wheat fields all his life, like his father. The wheat fields might be good for some, but not for Wang. He had higher goals.

Each step of Wang’s journey is full of mystery, challenges and life lessons. Children will enjoy reading this charming ancient legend with a new twist as they experience Mrs. Cioffi’s exciting world of fantasy.  They will learn about Chinese customs because this story is rich in authentic details like the foods, homes, crops, and locations of sixteenth century China.

Wang ambled back to the cottage. He noticed his favorite flower, the lemon lilies, in full bloom. They draped the landscape. Hmm, they smell so good. He found his mother in the chicken coop, bent over one of the hens, gathering the eggs it deposited. “Mother, I am home.”

Artist, Adriana Willow Raven, opens each chapter with a detailed illustration to stimulate the reader’s imagination.  Like the vibrant dragon on the cover, each illustration is rich in oriental detail.

As a retired teacher, I highly recommend this book for every school and home library.

SH SH SH LET THE BABY SLEEP: REVIEWS!

SH SH SH LET HE BABY SLEEP
AUTHOR: KATHY STEMKE
ILLUSTRATOR: JACK FOSTER
BOOK REVIEWS
In Sh Sh Sh Let the Baby Sleep, Kathy Stemke tells a story that children, especially those who have younger siblings, can relate to. Zachary's life takes a drastic change when a baby sister enters it. He puts on his special glasses and uses his creative imagination to become a superhero and quiet all the wild and noisy commotions that disturb her sleep. Each page of this delightful book is filled with bold, colorful illustrations by Jack Foster and has cute rhymes, which add to the fun. As an added bonus, there are games, word puzzles, a song, and rhymes at the end of the book. It's a great book for home and the classroom.

Connie Arnold
Inspiration poet

Having a new baby in the house can be a stressful situation for the parents, but don't forget the affect it has on the baby's older siblings. This is the premise of Kathy Stemke's delightful children's picture book, Sh Sh Sh Let the Baby Sleep.

Before Layla joined the family, Zachary's time was his own, whether playing, feeding the bird, or going to school. Now, his time revolves around the needs of his baby sister. His mother needs this for the baby and she needs that for the baby. And, shhhh, Zachary needs to be sure Layla doesn't wake up. And, he's just about fed-up.
Escaping the annoying and boring tasks that his mother asks of him for the baby, Zachary dons a pair of black-rimmed glasses and turns into what every little boy would love to be . . . a superhero. And, in superhero-mode he saves his baby sister from a ferocious bear, a tooting train, and a number of other calamities that either scare or awaken little Layla. One action adventure after another.

Sh Sh Sh Let the Baby Sleep is a story that children will absolutely love and will easily be able to relate to. How many children get annoyed that they're no longer the center of attention, or that they have to help take care of the baby, or that the family revolves around the baby's needs. Stemke addresses this issue in a fun-filled manner that shows children who feel this way, they are not alone and all is not lost.

With amazing and vivid full page illustrations and witty rhymes that lend themselves to teaching children consonant blends, this story will be a wonderful addition to every child's library, as well as the classroom.

At the end of the book, Stemke includes a "Teacher Supplement" that includes:

* The link to a template of thick black-framed glasses that Zachary wore
* Comprehension questions
* A consonant blend song
* A consonant blend musical chairs game
* A consonant blend worksheet
* Dolch Sight Words Recognition exercise
* Instructions for Beanbag Hoop Toss
* And more

Between the story, the illustrations, and the back-of-the-book teacher supplement, children, parents, and teachers will all find Sh Sh Sh Let the Baby Sleep a real treasure.

Become a Fan of Children’s Author Karen Cioffi

Acquiring facebook friends is similar to working to get traffic to your site. I find article marketing is a great tool to create visibility, get yourself established as an expert in your field/niche, and bring traffic to your site. The same holds true for facebook. If you provide valuable information to readers, they will want to become a facebook friend or fan, and follow you on twitter.

Promotion is pretty much the same for whatever you are trying to do:

1. Learn your craft, so you have something to offer
2. Create visibility with a website or blog, and blog regularly
3. Provide valuable content
4. Do article marketing
5. Use the social networks
6. Establish yourself as an expert

Moving Through All Seven Days is a wonderful way to teach young children the days of the week. The days move forward with playful activities, "Slipping, sliding, spin and play, Fun on Sunday, that's the way."

Reading and exercise – what a combination! With bold and colorful illustrations it is sure to hold any child’s attention.

As an added feature, Moving Through All Seven Days includes an activity and learning section with: in class activities, spelling the days of the week, rhyming words, coloring pages and more. This is sure to be a hit in any preschool or lower grade classroom.
Moving Through All Seven Days is also a great way to teach the days of the week to your own little ones before they start school. I’ll be reading it to my 3-year-old grandson!

This fun book is full of lively rhymes, clever illustrations, and engaging activities sure to be fun for all the kids in your class -- or out of it. I knew I was hooked when I found myself filling in the missing letters on the Complete Each Word activity.

Kathy Stemke, can I be in your class? Pretty please?

Move and groove along with the whimsical characters of Moving Through All Seven Days as they slip, twirl, and glide you through the days of the week. An activities resource to help reinforce the learning process of spelling the days of the week is a welcome bonus. It provides an ingenious way of getting the children up from behind their desks to experience learning through movement.

Children’s author, Kathy Ann Stemke brilliantly blends lyrical rhyme and the learning process in a fun and educational twist. Along with the vibrant illustrations created by Tony Glisson, Moving Through All Seven Days is a must have for preschool and kindergarten classrooms and no home library would be complete without it.

Each rhyme is short, easy to learn, and fun. I teach Pre-k for the local school district. Our "teaching time" is so limited in Pre-k for scheduling reasons.
What caught my attention is that a teacher could quickly do a daily "story board" and the kids would GET it. At higher grade levels this material could be easily used in center stations for independent work that students would be interested in doing. WAY TO GO!

VIRTUAL BOOK TOUR

VIRTUAL BOOK TOUR (Held on the first and third weeks of each month)

KAREN CIOFFI is the founder and moderator of this exciting book tour! She was fortunate to be able to participate in The Muse Online Conference in mid October. One of the workshops she took was Denise Cassino’s Book Marketing. Denise suggested that the attendees do virtual book tours for each other. Karen decided to create an organized group of authors that would advertise each others books, and do interviews to learn about the authors biographies, motivations, and writing secrets. She would like to see the group steadily grow and become a never-ending marketing tool. I have the distinct honor this first week of the tour of presenting Karen's first children's picture book on my blog.

DAYS END LULLABY

AUTHORs: KAREN CIOFFI and ROBYN FELTMAN

SYNOPSIS:
Day’s End Lullaby is a tender and charming illustrated children’s book. From a reminder that the sun has set and all beloved toys are awaiting tomorrow’s play, Day’s End Lullaby soothes and quiets even those children who struggle against sleep. The authors’ artistry found in their understanding of the sense of security needed by children at bedtime.

“Your day’s been long and full of fun. But, now you’re much too tired to run,” sings the parent to the child in the lullaby. Day’s End Lullaby has lyrical and rhyming phrases along with a rhythmic flow.

Author Cioffi composed the poem and music over 30 years ago to help her first born fall asleep and then again for her second child. She saw positive results in singing it and now she sings it to her two-year-old grandson. She reassures him, “The sun has set, it’s out of view. The moon’s now shining bright for you.”

Authors Cioffi and Feltman wrote and illustrated Day’s End Lullaby as a loving book to comfort little ones and provide a sense of security at bedtime. The simple and colorful illustrations are intended to hold the child’s attention while the parent’s soothing voice helps the child gently drift off into a peaceful slumber.

This book is an appealing addition to any collection of bedtime stories for preschoolers. Colorful and attractive illustrations pair beautifully with the rhyming text. Day's End Lullaby provides the reassuring tone young children will love as part of their bedtime routine.

INTERVIEW WITH THE AUTHORS PART I:

1. What do you enjoy most about writing for children?

Children are such a joy and source of inspiration. My co-author, who happens to be my daughter, and I are both advocates of education and reading. Reading opens new worlds to children. It can enlighten them, it can open their imagination and it can teach them. Being a part of that is just a wonderful feeling.

2. How did you come up with the idea for the book?

I wrote the lullaby to the story over 30 years ago. My firstborn didn’t like sleeping. I sang it to her as I paced the hallway carrying her in my arms to get her to sleep and again when she’d wake in the middle of the night. I did the same thing with my second daughter and it became a family lullaby. Now my family sings it to my grandson and we will also sing it to my grandson due mid November. How it became a book is, after my first grandson came my daughter and co-author, Robyn, thought it would make a great bedtime story and here we are.

A REVIEW OF THIS BOOK:

This book is an appealing addition to any collection of bedtime stories for preschoolers. Colorful and attractive illustrations pair beautifully with the rhyming text. Day's End Lullaby provides the reassuring tone young children will love as part of their bedtime routine.
